Let’s Tap It Out
From Chris Gaskill:
This year’s Tap Cancer Out tournament was my biggest effort yet!
Thanks to the support of family, friends, colleagues and the legal community at large, we pushed well past my $10,000 fundraising goal.
I first stepped onto the Tap Cancer Out mats in 2022 to honor three people I loved. Since then, unfortunately the circle has only grown to include more family, friends, coworkers, and training partners who’ve faced their own battles.
With one in four of us impacted by cancer, this truly is a shared fight.
This October at the Philadelphia Open, on the mats I was proud to take home gold in my brown belt division winning two matches and off the mats to finish second overall in fundraising for the event.
This chapter may be closed, but the mission isn’t. Thank you for standing with me.
A Day In the Life In the House/Senate
From Christine Allen:
To say the least, it’s been a crazy last few weeks. Separate from the onboarding with Lexitas, we have been in the yearly push towards Congress’ August recess. We live and breathe by the Congressional calendar.
The House and Senate will return in September, so August is always a good time for planning, regrouping, and training. And I really have no idea how September is going to go. The political climate really dictates their agenda.
I’ve also attached a couple photos of me from what I think is the Senate Judiciary’s webpage. I circled myself in green. Some days are very quiet, and some days are over-the-top.
If you wanted to sit in on a hearing, by all means you can always check out the live or archived hearings on the various Committee web pages [www.senate.gov and www.house.gov].
St. Louis Reporting
Motion for Kids
For more than 30 years, Motion for Kids has provided gifts for up to 2,000 St. Louis area children in the foster care system or children whose lives have been severely impacted by the criminal justice system. Motion for Kids partners with local support organizations to identify the children invited to participate. Those children are matched up with sponsors from the St. Louis legal community (lawyers, judges, paralegals, office administrators, law students, legal secretaries, and their families).
Each sponsor is asked to purchase and wrap two gifts (totaling $30) chosen from the child's wish list. Gifts are distributed at an event to which the children and their families are invited.
Since 2022, the holiday event has been held at Harris-Stowe State University's Emerson Performance Center. Motion for Kids is hosted by The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and the Saint Louis Bar Foundation with generous support from Harris-Stowe State University, the St. Louis Cardinals, the St. Louis Blues, Lexitas and many others. Lexitas sponsors and runs the Santa station with the help of employees and family volunteers.
